Rediscovering Peruvian Coffee with Olé Foundation Coffee Club

At Olé Foundation Coffee Club, we source our Peruvian coffee from APROCCURMA, a cooperative renowned for empowering female growers. These women have established land ownership and are trained in organic, environmental practices. Their coffee presents a distinctively soft profile with notes of orange cream, chocolate cola, nuts, and delicate fresh rose.

APROCCURMA: Empowering Female Growers

GROWERS: Female producers of Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros de la Cuenca del Rio Marañón (APROCCURMA)
REGION: Rodríguez de Mendoza, Peru
COFFEE VARIETIES: Typica, Pache, Caturra, Catimor, Bourbon
PEAK HARVEST: May-August

The women of APROCCURMA operate in the province of Rodríguez de Mendoza. Historically, women represent a substantial percentage of the coffee industry’s labor force yet receive very little revenue because most of the land is traditionally owned by men. Thanks to APROCCURMA, female producers have become first-time landowners and receive education in organic, earth-friendly farming practices. When you purchase Olé Foundation Coffee Club’s Peruvian coffees, you empower these women and support a healthier planet.

A Rich Tradition of Excellence

The coffee plants are grown in mineral-rich clay soil, then fully washed and dried in the sun. The specific Arabica bean varietals used are Typica, Pache, Caturra, Catimor, and Bourbon. Peru has a long history of coffee growing, dating back to the mid-1700s. Initially, its beans were consumed locally, but as the taste for coffee grew, so did production. By the early 1900s, Peru began exporting beans on a large scale, making up 60% of its exports.

Peru’s success in coffee production is due to its geography and tradition. The mountains in Northwest Peru provide ideal coffee growing conditions, although coffee is grown across the country, including on farms in the coastal plains and Amazon jungles. Peru is one of the world’s leading growers of specialty coffee. While virtually all Peruvian coffees are good, our Quad Blend stands out. The women who grew these beans have crafted something truly special, of which they can be very proud.
